My Location on the Globe?

I have the USA flag which clearly shows that I'm from the USA...But on the globe it shows me in the South Atlantic Ocean by Africa. It's the same on my Ocarina app too. How do I change my location on the globe to show up in the northern, central part of the United States? I have an iPod touch rather than an iPhone...does that have anything to do with it? I'm not so sure my iPod touch has a GPS if that is what it takes. I'm new at this iPod Touch stuff..so please forgive me if I'm sounding stupid. lol

Re: My Location on the Globe?

Well, that answered one of my questions:

Why do I occasionally see someone to the west of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean from the USA? (I actually thought it was, perhaps, someone on a ship!)

Now, I realize it is possibly a GPS thing as you say.

Re: My Location on the Globe?

I use an IPhone and am placed off the coast of Africa as well. Originally, I was placed properly in North East US. Not sure what the glitch is, but I've noticed many people, regardless of flag, placed in the same locale off Eastern Africa.

Haha! I wish I were on that ship. My life lacks adventure. But thanks to my iPod touch, I can have a virtual adventure... which is really cool!

Sounds like it may be a glitch then. They should make it so we can manually change our globe location. I really think the globe is a super cool feature...Just wish it would work right.

I really love my iPod touch, but it's lacking some features I wish it had. I'm not sure but I don't think it has GPS. I also wish that the iPod touch automatically came with a built in mic for games like this one....It really should...I don't know why it doesn't. It's not like I want to turn my iPod into a phone, I just want it for gaming purposes. I want to play the Leaf trombone and ocarina the way they should be played. Well...I guess I'll have to buy some external mic for it that sticks out like a sore thumb. Oh well... Is there an external mic where I can also plug my head phones in? I will check into that.

Re: My Location on the Globe?

Yay a post I can answer and feel smart. :P

Anyone using an wireless Internet via WiFi/Wireless Router will appear beside Africa in the middle of the ocean.

The reason why is that the router is not registered on the website that does that GPS stuff for the iPod. I heard tale of the site's name, however I've forgotten it, just google it if you really have an itching to find out. Since routers can only tell your iPod as much as they know, and location isn't one of them.

As for the iPhone problem, it's probably because you switched over to WiFi to save some cash haha.

Hope this answered your question! :D

Re: My Location on the Globe?

Hmmmm. Not so sure about that. I always use my iPhone at home with my wireless router/WiFi connection and it sees me on the Globe on the east coast of America... which is correct.

Re: My Location on the Globe?

Your router must be registered then. I'd imagine some routers bought are now preprogrammed to know your location. Easy process, an IP address is enough to know somebody's location.

Re: My Location on the Globe?

Yeah it would probably have something to do with your external IP set by your ISP. Generally you can just to go to a URL and they can tell what city you are from. So I'm guessing ISP issue.

Re: My Location on the Globe?

Thanks for the info, JeffCash... You sound smart. ;) Well I registered my wireless router today at the company's site Linksys by Cisco, and so far nothing is happening....or maybe it doesn't work on my 2006 model or maybe it will take some time. I don't know. Maybe it's an ISP issue? I'm not sure what an ISP is.... I feel so stupid! But I'm bound and determined to figure this thing out, and hopefully someday I'll appear in north central part of the USA instead of in the ocean off the shore of Africa. hahaha. :?

Re: My Location on the Globe?

My location on the globe is correct as of this morning. I think it may have had something to do with Google's gps? Either way, I did nothing different and it corrected itself.

ISP is your...

Internet

Service

Provider

:P

You're assigned an IP (Internet Protocol) by your ISP which in turn acts as a personal Internet address of your computer. There are several sites which you can copy and past your IP to and it can tell you waht your ISP is for example Roadrunner. Location wise, this can then be used to find your location. The local headquarters of all ISPs are registered on a site so when you eventually register your routers location, rather than your actual location being given, instead you will show up accordinly to where your ISP's located.

When I read up on the issue I was given a specific website to where you register your router at, I've forgotten it by now but I'm pretty sure a google search should find then. Unfourtantly, I'm too lasy to do one myself, lol.

lol. That makes too much sense! duh! :P

Well I did a little searching and found this website.... http://www.skyhookwireless.com/

But unfortunately it's not working for me. I get some error message saying that it can't locate my wireless location. I get the feeling that my wireless router is too old to work as a GPS. It's a 2006 model. :( It seems like the only ways for me to change my location is go to a coffee shop or use someone else's wireless or get a new router. I guess I should just be grateful my wireless works. But I wish they would make things easier by making it so I can manually type in my location into the app settings...Why can't that be done? ugh!

Re: My Location on the Globe?

also if the gps cant find you it will automaticaly assume your at the chordinates 0,0 which is off the coast of africa 0,0 is the exact point where the north south east and west all meet up for those younger people who might read this and dont know abought coordinates yet

Re: My Location on the Globe?

Is there any way to change my location so that it points to the correct area?? Like some of you ppl, it says in the Ocean .. near Africa.. I'm actually in California! LOL. I'm not using my wireless router...

Thanks

Re: My Location on the Globe?

Not using your wireless router, but you are using wifi, right?
