In Christ Alone

This is one of my all time favorite songs. I used the sheet music from here:

http://www.praisecharts.com/product/pre ... review.pdf

I didn't realize it had parts for various instruments before I used the first page to do the score below. It doesn't really have any rhythm notations either.

If someone wants to use the score above, or another one they have, and improve upon what I've done, PLEASE DO. I really don't have the time right now to do much more than what I've already done but would really love to see this completed.

Re: In Christ Alone

Thanks for posting that - I love this song as well. Have it on my iPod, now I can play it!

Re: In Christ Alone

Okay, I've added the rest from the first two pages (mine the intros, repeats, etc) of the score above:

http://ocarina.smule.com/score.php?mode ... st%20Alone

It starts on the 2nd line where the words start and goes to the last line of the 1st page up to where the vs 1 and 2 ending is, instead it goes straight to the vs 3 ending, and then into vs 4. Whenever there were multiple options for a note, I always took the higher one. There is one spot near the end of the song (two empty boxes on the score, the "ev - er" from "can ever pluck me from his hand") where I couldn't play two notes (E and D#) and none of the other roots included those notes as well as the low A elsewhere in the song. It might be possible to redo the whole thing and take one of the lower options when there are multiple levels of a note, but I don't feel like doing that. If I do it for JUST that section, it sounds bad, and just playing the high D there sounds bad too. Thats why I left them empty, I think it sounds better doing nothing, for those two beats than the wrong thing.

Again, the rhythm isn't there. All the blank spaces are just where there was a rest of some sort in the score. There is also no reason for the width other than I have a small laptop screen and it needs to be that wide to see it all :-)

Re: In Christ Alone

sounds really great, my brothers and sisters from church loves it :)

but the 3rd row sounds a bit strange.

Re: In Christ Alone

Here is the score (I actually added a note on the fifth line, and took out the last section) with words. I couldn't find any issues with the third line, but the missing note was an issue with the first for sure.

For the first two verses you play from the beginning to "Stand*" and that note is held longer.

On the third verse, you plan from the beginning but skip "Stand*" and play "Christ**" and then keep on going straight into verse 4 with the next note "No".

There were a few places where the word was longer than the area of the note, so it overhangs a bit, but its still just that one note. If a word was split between multiple notes, it will be noted with a dash (-) between the words, like "cor - ner - stone" at the end of the first line.

You can use the pdf of the score in my first post to see the words for the 2nd and 3rd verse.

Again, there is no rhythm conveyed here, so if something doesn't sound right, make sure you aren't reading anything into the layout. Even the blank spaces don't indicate ALL of the rests. hopefully the words will help indicate the rhythm.

Re: In Christ Alone

I know one of the guys who wrote this song, Shawn Craig, he is the lead pastor at my church. I showed him this and he was very impressed. So congrats to you.

Re: In Christ Alone

Thank you. That is a mighty big compliment. I can't help think he might have been more impressed if this had been the one he wrote, and not the one by Stuart Towend & Keith Getty :-)

Two different songs, both lyrically and musically, but two very good songs. This just happens to be the "other" one.

Converted into digital "visually mneumonic" shorthand -- only 4 numbers needed - 6 - lower hole closed (see the little loop at the bottom of the six, 9 - upper hole closed (see the little loop at the top of the nine), 8 - both holes closed (see the little loops at top and bottom, 0 - neither upper or lower closed (well, not little loops, at least) - basically, this is exactly like the nifty blue squares with the four circles generated by the Score Generator on his web site - only the numbers can be printed by computer or written by hand...
