What does the "play melodies when asleep" setting do? Does it make Ocarina play what I played after I've quit out of the app? And while we're at it, why hasn't anyone given me love yet? (i.e., please heart JeffB when you hear his music in globe mode :D )
The "play melodies when asleep" option allows you to have the iPhone hibernate, but enables the audio in the world view to continue playing.

Does his mode enabled consumes more battery than when the mode is unabled???
It has no effect on the battery life, until you are in the world view and the phone is asleep. Then it decreases the battery life of the phone in hibernate. But while you are playing the Ocarina, having it on has no effect on the battery.

Okay so the tunes can be played even when the phone/touch is asleep. But does the Ocarina app have to be running (but in sleep mode) in order for the tunes to be broadcasted? I'd like to be able to quit out of the app completely and still have my ocarina tunes played to the world.

Your melodies are uploaded as you play, so there is no reason to keep the ocarina running for this reason. Keep playing and your music will be out there.
