I noticed on the homepage it mentions that you can listen to yourself playing with headphones, but I haven't been able to do this:
"What's great about the iPhone Ocarina is that you can play it anywhere! If you are afraid that the sound may bother people around you, just lower the volume or pop in some earbuds."
I have my headphones plugged in and I can listen to videos on the iPod through them fine, but can't hear myself play or anyone on the world playing. It just plays through the speaker when I up the volume. Is there a way to turn it on so I can hear it through the headphones?
I have the same problem too. I sent a "report a problem" email and they replied saying that all I had to do was plug the headphones in after I started the app. It still didn't work. What version of iPhone do you have? I think it only happens with the original, but I'm not sure. Smule says its Apple's fault, which I believe, and that it should be fixed on the 2.2 update. I hope.
I had this issue last night where I was using the headphones just fine, then I unplugged them and plugged them back in and the sound came through the speaker. However I just unplugged and plugged again, and it went back to working fine. I think it might register funny if you don't put it all the way in. Because the first time I 'unplugged' the headphones I just pulled it from the innermost position (one notch out, without pulling the plug completely out, and then clicked it back in).
So the only suggestion I have is to try unplugging them and plugging it back in, also make sure they are plugged in all the way.
The problem is that the Ocarina will run of the mic from the headphones... I think that's apples bug though..
I just can't get it to work.
The app technically does still work. It's just that once you plug in your headphones, the app doesn't use the mic on the phone anymore. A few inches down one of the earbuds, you'll find the mic that you're to use with the headphones. That mic issue confused me for a good while too.
Trying to blow into the headphones mic while playing is very awkward. I haven't found a good way to play using that mic yet.
It seems like more of a firmware issue, since the mic that people will usually use with earbuds is the headphone mic.
Hey all,
It should work just fine if you plug the headphones in PRIOR to starting the application. So if you are rockin' away and decide you want headphones, you would have to exit the application, plug the headphones in, and then restart the Ocarina.
Hope that helps

Hm... I have an iPhone 3g running v2.1 and that method didn't seem to work. I did what you suggested: Played it as I normally would, exited the application, plugged in headphones then started up the application again. The app still was using the headphone mic though.
Ok, the phone is designed to disable the onboard microphone when it detects a set of headphones with an attached mic. The issue with the headphones being plugged in after starting the application applies to all headphones. You can plug a normal set of headphones, without an attached microphone, and it will not disengage the phones mic.
Does this clear some of the confusion up?

Alright I tried plugging in headphones that don't have a mic, but I found another problem. I can hardly hear what I'm playing even when I have the volume up all the way. Again, I think this is a firmware issue. Anyone else have this problem?
Cool, that works! Thanks elon!
@Mac: My headphones are pretty loud even at half volume. Do you have the most recent firmware?
Yeah I do, I used the old iPod headphones, which played and a high level when I put the music from my iPod on, but when I tried through the Ocarina it didn't work. Ugggh... just release the new 2.2 firmware already...
If you have earphones with a speaker it is easier to play... PLACE YOU EARPHONES ON THEN HOLD THE SPEAKER WIRE WITH YOUR LIPS, THE SPEAkER SHOULD BE IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR LIPS. nOW IT PLAYS AS YOU EXHALE AND AS YOU INHALE. That is better than having to stop to breathe when blowing in the mic :)
Can we have some moderation here with these lame advertisers? I'm having the same problem i tried plugging in mine and the sound refused to be heard.
Hi Okki,
Working on taking care of the Spam. What microphone are you using with Ocarina?
