Why does the Dorian Mode repeat a note?

For example, in C (according to the PDF file http://ocarina.smule.com/misc/ocarina/scores/dorian.pdf) it goes G, G#, A, A#, B, C, D, D#, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, A, C. Why is this?
