I am trying to get this song into notation to play on the iphone, and the note range is from below staff B to E, with F#'s.
The Mixolydian E (http://ocarina.smule.com/misc/ocarina/scores/mixolydian.pdf) has all the right notes it appears, but it does not sound right.
Here is the melody:

Anyone clue me in on why this doesn't work? I have done this for other songs in Ionian and such before pretty easily by finding the key and mode that have the right notes.
I threw this together quick:
Ocarina score: And Can It Be
may not be right on I didn't test it beyond the first few notes.
I found out what is wrong.
I set my ocarina to E and E 8va Mix, and recorded and uploaded. Then used cleartune to find out what the notes actually are.
The pdf is wrong.

The pdf shows 8 as being a G, not a F#/Gb which is what the ocarina produces.
Smule needs to fix that pdf.
As a side note, fixed by using dorian instead.
